TRACE Contributes to Stakeholder Dialogue on Sustainable Last-Mile Logistics in Athens

Athens, Greece | 5 June 2026

The TRACE project participated in the GREEN-LOG Athens Living Lab Stakeholder Event, titled “Collaborative Approaches to Last-Mile Logistics in the Urban Environment: Experiences from Athens,” bringing together around 60 stakeholders from the logistics sector, academia, local authorities, and European research initiatives.

Co-organised by ACS, the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), and hosted by DAEM (City of Athens), the event provided a valuable platform for discussing the challenges, opportunities, and future of sustainable urban logistics, with a particular focus on improving last-mile delivery in metropolitan environments.

During the event, the TRACE project was presented by Prof. Stathes Hadjiefthymiades (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens), who introduced the project’s vision and ongoing work towards smarter, more sustainable, and data-driven logistics solutions. The presentation highlighted how TRACE develops innovative technologies to improve the efficiency, resilience, and sustainability of freight transport and urban supply chains.

TRACE was also represented during one of the event’s panel discussions by Prof. Stathes Hadjiefthymiades and Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, who joined experts from academia, industry, local authorities, and European projects to exchange perspectives on the evolution of urban logistics. Discussions focused on the importance of collaboration between public and private stakeholders, the adoption of digital technologies, and the transfer of research results from pilot demonstrations to real-world deployment.

The stakeholder event showcased experiences from the Athens Living Lab and explored practical approaches for addressing the growing challenges of last-mile logistics in increasingly complex urban environments. Participants discussed innovative delivery models, digital tools, and collaborative strategies that can support more efficient, sustainable, and citizen-friendly urban transport systems.

The participation of TRACE alongside other European initiatives reinforced the project’s commitment to fostering cooperation across the logistics ecosystem and promoting innovative solutions that contribute to more resilient and sustainable urban freight operations.

TRACE thanks the organisers, speakers, and participants for the insightful discussions and looks forward to continuing collaboration with stakeholders working towards the advancement of intelligent urban logistics across Europe.
