The TRACE project was successfully presented at Transport Engineering Days 2026 in Portorož, Slovenia, where representatives from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Architecture of the University of Maribor (FGPA UM) showcased the project’s innovative work on sustainable urban logistics and autonomous delivery technologies.
The event brought together around 100 transport engineers, researchers, students, and professionals from the transport sector, providing an excellent platform to exchange knowledge and discuss emerging trends in mobility, logistics, and transport engineering.
During the presentation, the University of Maribor introduced the overall objectives of the TRACE project, highlighting its contribution to developing innovative, digital, and sustainable logistics solutions for urban environments. Particular emphasis was placed on the Slovenian pilot, demonstrating how TRACE is exploring new approaches to improve the efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability of last-mile freight transport.
A key focus of the presentation was the testing of autonomous delivery robots, one of the innovative technologies being evaluated within the TRACE project. Participants learned how autonomous delivery systems can support urban logistics operations by enhancing delivery efficiency, reducing environmental impacts, and complementing existing transport solutions in increasingly complex city environments.
The presentation generated engaging discussions on the practical implementation of autonomous delivery technologies, their operational challenges, and their potential role in future urban logistics systems. Attendees expressed strong interest in the project’s pilot activities and the opportunities offered by autonomous solutions for creating more resilient and sustainable freight transport networks.
Participation in Transport Engineering Days 2026 further strengthened TRACE’s visibility within the transport engineering community while promoting knowledge exchange between academia and industry. The event also provided valuable opportunities to engage with researchers, practitioners, and future transport professionals interested in the digital transformation of urban logistics.
TRACE thanks the University of Maribor for successfully representing the project and all participants for the insightful discussions on the future of autonomous delivery and sustainable urban freight transport.
