Short Profile

HELLENIC TRAIN is the main provider of rail transport for passengers and freight in Geek region. Hellenic Train offers domestic and international freight transportation services – with regular wagons or containers (multimodal transportation), carried either on individual wagons or in block trains.

Hellenic train operates urban, suburban, regional, long-distance and international passenger transport, as well as transport of any kind with fixed track systems. Hellenic train also operates scenic trains like the Diakopto – Kalavrita and train of Pelion.

Hellenic Train owns 10 depot sites and factories that uses for the maintenance of the rolling stock that uses for the railway routes. All of the depots are in or near the city’s centres and Hellenic train use these to maintenance the rolling stock, make composition of the wagons and proceed with oil fillings.

The main purposes of the company are:

  • The development, organization and operation of urban, suburban, regional, long-distance and international passenger and freight rail transport, as well as transport of any kind with fixed track systems.
  • The development, organization and operation of combined transport (with more than one means of transport).
  • The development, organization and operation of urban, suburban regional, interurban and international bus and coach transport services abroad or domestic.
  • The supply of all kinds of logistics services, as well as any activity related to supply chain management.
  • The organization, operation and provision of passenger services.

Role in TRACE

Hellenic Train is going to act as the primary railway provider in TRACE project, supporting the TRACE platform and Greek pilot utilizing the companys train fleet. HT will also participate in synchromodal and intermodal logistics scenarios in the Athens – Thessaloniki corridor, as well as contribute to studies on the resilience of disruptive events in the same area.
