Date: 20 July 2025
Location: Glasgow, UK — during IEEE ICDCS 2025
The TRACE consortium was proud to play a leading role in the 1st Workshop on Distributed Computing Systems for Smart Logistics (DCSSL), held on 20 July 2025 in conjunction with the prestigious IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems (ICDCS 2025) in Glasgow.
The workshop was jointly organized by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the University of Thessaly, and UNIMORE, with strong involvement from the TRACE project. The event brought together a diverse audience of around 20 participants, including distributed systems researchers, logistics and smart mobility developers, PhD students, engineers, and industry representatives exploring the integration of distributed technologies in logistics applications.
TRACE researchers presented papers and talks focusing on distributed architectures for logistics, highlighting the project’s approach to scalable, interoperable, and resilient systems for smart logistics coordination.
TRACE’s Role and Impact
The DCSSL workshop was directly aligned with TRACE’s core research objectives, focusing on distributed computing, edge/cloud integration, and real-time coordination for logistics systems. TRACE’s active participation and co-organization resulted in significant outcomes:
- Positioning and visibility: TRACE was showcased as a key European initiative at the intersection of distributed systems and logistics innovation.
- Targeted outreach: The event engaged a technically relevant audience, facilitating knowledge exchange and discussions on architecture design and system scalability.
- Collaboration opportunities: Networking with European and international institutions opened the door to future research collaborations, joint proposals, and shared datasets.
- Technical feedback: The feedback received during Q&A sessions provided valuable insights for refining TRACE’s distributed architecture, particularly in scalability and interoperability.
- International exposure: Being part of IEEE ICDCS — a flagship global conference — strengthened TRACE’s global profile within the distributed systems community.
- Dissemination and awareness: Calls for papers and promotional activities around DCSSL amplified TRACE’s presence across both academic and industrial ecosystems.
A Milestone for TRACE
Overall, DCSSL 2025 marked a key dissemination and networking milestone for TRACE. By linking its applied research goals with the broader distributed systems community, TRACE reinforced its position as a relevant and innovative contributor to smart logistics in Europe and beyond.
