TRACE at RTR 2025: Driving the Future of Sustainable Freight Transport

From February 11-13, 2025, the RTR (Results from Road Transport Research) Conference convened in Brussels, attracting more than 400 participants on-site and 400 online. Now in its 8th edition, the RTR Conference remains a key platform for showcasing EU-funded research and innovation in road transport.

TRACE proudly participated in Session 12: “Sustainable and Resilient Freight Transport and Long-Haul Logistics”, joining fellow Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects SETO, KEYSTONE, SARIL, and ReMuNet. Our project coordinator, Prof. Stathes Hadjiefthymiades from the University of Athens (Dept. of Informatics), presented TRACE’s groundbreaking work on integrating and harmonizing freight transport operations.

Key Takeaways from RTR 2025:

    • Resilience & Sustainability: A balanced approach ensures supply chains remain both robust and eco-friendly.
    • Digitalization & Data Utilization: Real-time data is underused, but unlocking its potential is crucial for efficiency.
    • Regulatory & Technological Advancements: Compliance with evolving EU transport regulations is essential for resilient logistics.

The RTR Conference showcased cutting-edge R&I results, highlighting deployment strategies and real-world impacts. It reaffirmed the crucial role of collaborative, pre-competitive research in advancing European transport solutions.

As TRACE continues to contribute to the transformation of logistics and freight transport, we remain committed to supporting Europe’s journey toward a smarter, greener, and more resilient transport ecosystem.
