The TRACE project has released a new brochure showcasing its TRACE Smart Locker, an innovative connected exchange point designed to support secure and efficient package handovers during autonomous and collaborative last-mile delivery operations.
As cities increasingly explore autonomous delivery solutions, secure package exchange between logistics operators, autonomous vehicles and final recipients becomes a critical element of future logistics systems. The TRACE Smart Locker has been developed to provide a reliable physical interface that remains fully connected with the TRACE collaborative logistics platform.
Designed for urban and campus delivery scenarios, the Smart Locker enables controlled package loading and collection through secure PIN-based access while continuously synchronising delivery information with the TRACE platform in real time.
The prototype offers several key features, including:
- Secure PIN-controlled compartment access;
- Real-time communication with the TRACE platform;
- Two-compartment design for flexible package handling;
- Touchscreen interface for simple operation;
- Continuous delivery status updates and tracking.
The brochure also illustrates the complete delivery workflow, from compartment selection and PIN generation to parcel loading, collection and automatic platform updates. This integration enables controlled physical package exchanges while maintaining full digital visibility throughout the delivery process.
Developed as part of the TRACE technological ecosystem, the Smart Locker complements the project’s broader vision of collaborative, connected and sustainable urban logistics. It demonstrates how intelligent infrastructure can support the deployment of autonomous delivery services while ensuring secure operations and improved coordination between logistics actors.
